Night Ride

My new bike

Got the itch to go riding however due to having so much work on we had to make it a night ride. Visibility was not great as my visor would fog up every 5 seconds and the wind chill at 100 km/h makes your eyes water instantly especially when its 6 degrees outside. Fun times.

Investment

Just after i sold the zxr this mint bike(kawasaki ER-5) came up cheap, so i brought it hoping to make a quick buck. 4 weeks later i've still got it :/

Easter Trip Part 2

later that day i left dunedin and headed to cromwell. Everything was going well. I made it to lawrence which is an hour and half out of dunedin and stopped to fuel up. My dad was coming down from cromwell on his harley to meet me. Lawrence is about halfway so i knew id run into him soon. About 2 min out of lawrence dad goes past so i pulled off the road so he could turn around and come meet me. I stopped on a gravel driveway, i had just stopped when all of a sudden the bike fell over(on the right side again!) underneath me. WTF??!!!??! I stood the bike up and it turned out my handle bar clamp had snapped at a weld. The previous owner had laid the bike over, snapped the clamp then had it welded up. Except they did a shite job and now it had just snapped again. Well my indicator was already broken and so was my brake lever so that didn't really matter. The peg hanger was fine this time. The broken piece of the handle bar went through the speedo glass shattering that.

I managed to ride with one hand to the nearest service station, purchased some "race tape" and taped the crap out of it

I rode all the way to cromwell like this. Once we got to our house in cromwell we fashioned a slightly safer fastening with a stainless hose clamp. I had planned i return trip to dunedin and more touring around but the less km on that broken handle bar the better. So i decided to return the christchurch to fix the bike.

This is me and the bike in front of one of the massive turbines ex Avinmore dam.

Amazing scenery, bad vantage point for a photo. Thats Mt Cook way across the lake.

The indicator lens fell off again somewhere out of Asburton. Moral of the story - Race tape, don't leave home without it.

Easter Trip

I decided i wanted to try a road trip on the bike. Being a sports bike i went knowing it wouldn't be comfortable but hey your only young once.  This weekend ended up being quite the nightmare. I had been told that wearing a backpack for long periods of time on the bike would kill my back and really take the enjoyment out of the ride. So i decided to get some pannier bags. Might lose a few cool points but meh. Thursday night i had the bike all packed up and checked all the vitals water, oil, tyre pressure etc. I was moving the bike around in the garage when due to a bad call i dropped the bike on its right side. F**K, i picked the bike up and assessed the damage. 1 broken indicator lens and snapped the end off the brake lever annoying but nothing that would stop me leaving the next day or so i thought. I was up at 7:30 the next day all rearing to go. I wheeled the bike out side and just as i go to mount  the bike i notice the right side peg hanger is snapped! F**K. Being good friday i didn't think any workshops would be open and so regretfully i put the bike back in the garage. I still really wanted to go on this trip so i rang through the engineering shops in the yellow pages and as expected most of them were closed but i managed to get one man who was into motorcycles himself to take a look at the peg hanger. He managed to weld it up for me and i was on my way to dunedin, leaving christchurch at 4pm.

This 63' thunderbird was playing hopscotch with me all the way to Oamaru. I would past him then as i stopped in the next town for gas he would pass me. We ended up stopping at the same service station and he came and said hello. He has driven the car every day for the last 20 years. Cool.

I made it to dunedin and after visiting people i needed to and a big night Saturday night i went for a ride up the peninsula and took some cool photos.
