I decided i wanted to try a road trip on the bike. Being a sports bike i went knowing it wouldn't be comfortable but hey your only young once. This weekend ended up being quite the nightmare. I had been told that wearing a backpack for long periods of time on the bike would kill my back and really take the enjoyment out of the ride. So i decided to get some pannier bags. Might lose a few cool points but meh. Thursday night i had the bike all packed up and checked all the vitals water, oil, tyre pressure etc. I was moving the bike around in the garage when due to a bad call i dropped the bike on its right side. F**K, i picked the bike up and assessed the damage. 1 broken indicator lens and snapped the end off the brake lever annoying but nothing that would stop me leaving the next day or so i thought. I was up at 7:30 the next day all rearing to go. I wheeled the bike out side and just as i go to mount the bike i notice the right side peg hanger is snapped! F**K. Being good friday i didn't think any workshops would be open and so regretfully i put the bike back in the garage. I still really wanted to go on this trip so i rang through the engineering shops in the yellow pages and as expected most of them were closed but i managed to get one man who was into motorcycles himself to take a look at the peg hanger. He managed to weld it up for me and i was on my way to dunedin, leaving christchurch at 4pm.
This 63' thunderbird was playing hopscotch with me all the way to Oamaru. I would past him then as i stopped in the next town for gas he would pass me. We ended up stopping at the same service station and he came and said hello. He has driven the car every day for the last 20 years. Cool.
